What Are Mad Points and Miles XP? Running Mad Rewards Explained

Quick answer: “Mad Miles” is what people often call the two rewards you earn on Running Mad. There are actually two separate things: Miles XP, a status score that never gets spent and moves you up six ranks from Rookie to Legend, and Mad Points, spendable points worth real money off at checkout (100 Mad Points = £1). You earn both automatically by taking on challenges, finishing them, referring friends and sharing your progress. Joining is free.

What are Mad Miles, Mad Points and Miles XP?

Running Mad Rewards has two currencies, and most of the confusion (including the “Mad Miles” name) comes from mixing them up. Miles XP is your status. It stacks up for life, is never spent, and decides your rank and your place on the leaderboard. Mad Points are your money. They sit in your account until you spend them on a discount at checkout, and they never expire. Every challenge you take on earns you both at the same time, so you climb the ranks and build up money off with the same effort.

How do you earn them?

Points land automatically. There are no codes to enter and nothing to claim. There are four ways to earn:

  • Sign up for a challenge: +50 Miles XP, plus +1 Mad Point for every £1 you spend, the moment you join any virtual running challenge.
  • Finish it: complete the distance and you bank +200 Miles XP and a finisher badge.
  • Refer a friend: when someone joins through your invite link and buys their first challenge, you earn +250 Miles XP and +150 Mad Points. This is the biggest single earn on the site.
  • Share your progress: share a challenge on social media for +5 Miles XP, once a day.

Mad Points are always tied to money spent, so a free digital challenge earns Miles XP and a badge but no Mad Points. Refunds reverse whatever the order earned.

How much are Mad Points worth?

100 Mad Points are worth £1 off. In practice most people spend them in round amounts: 500 Mad Points is £5 off, 1,000 is £10 off, and 2,000 is our biggest discount at £20 off your next medal. There is also a free-challenge milestone: finish five challenges and your next one, up to £35, is on us.

How do you spend them?

At checkout, open “Use rewards for a discount”, type in how many Mad Points you want to use and apply it. The discount comes straight off your order total. You can spend a little or the lot, and anything you do not use stays in your account for next time.

What are the ranks?

Your Miles XP total moves you through six ranks: Rookie (everyone starts here), Pacer, Strider, Trailblazer, Champion and Legend. Your rank shows on the leaderboard and on your dashboard, and it only ever goes up, because Miles XP is never spent.

Where do you see your balance?

Everything lives in My Running Mad, your dashboard. It shows your Mad Points balance, your Miles XP and rank, your badges (finisher badges, Distance Club at 26.2, 100 and 500 lifetime miles, and Recruiter badges for bringing friends), your active challenges and your invite link.

How do you join?

Create a free Running Mad account and you are in. You start earning from your very first challenge. The full breakdown, including the redeem tiers and badge list, is on the Running Mad Rewards page.
