Every activity counts: cycling, swimming, machines and more

Your challenge, your way. On a Running Mad challenge you can walk, jog or run, cycle, swim, crawl, use the machines at the gym, or mix them.

At a glance

  • Every activity counts towards your distance.
  • You log the distance you actually did.
  • Treadmill, bike and rowing machine distances count.
  • There is no cut-off time.

Choosing a distance when you cycle or swim

Cycling covers distance quickly, so you might pick a bigger distance such as 50 or 100 miles. Swimming covers it slowly, so a smaller distance such as 1.5 miles or 5K might suit you better. Either way, you simply log the distance you did. There are no conversion rules.

Indoor sessions

Treadmill, exercise bike and rowing machine sessions all count. Log the distance the machine shows at the end.

Mixing activities in one challenge

Mixing works well, especially on longer distances. A sample week:

  • Two walks
  • One bike ride
  • One swim

Pick what works for your body

Choose the activity and the distance that suit you, and take as long as you need. There is no cut-off time.
